CleanSense: A Smart Waste Management System with Ultrasonic Monitoring and Multi-Level Alert Mechanism

CleanSense is an intelligent waste management system designed to monitor dustbin fill levels in real time using ultrasonic sensing technology. The system employs an ESP32 microcontroller and an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor to continuously measure the distance between the sensor and the waste surface inside the dustbin. Based on the measured distance, the system calculates the fill level and displays the status on an OLED screen.

To provide clear user feedback, a green LED indicates normal operating conditions, while a red LED and buzzer generate visual and audible alerts when the dustbin reaches predefined warning and critical levels. The system helps prevent waste overflow, improves cleanliness, and supports efficient waste collection management.

Powered by a rechargeable 3.7V lithium battery with BMS protection and regulated through a buck converter, the system offers reliable and portable operation. The compact design makes it suitable for homes, offices, educational institutions, hospitals, public areas, and smart city applications.
